A combination of color and shape to express emotions

Synthetism was one of the important art movements in the late 19th century that was formed in France and had a significant impact on modern art. This art style sought to simplify forms and use pure and flat colors to express feelings and ideas.

The roots of synthesis

Synthesis was formed as a reaction against detailed realism in painting. Synthetic artists believed that art should go beyond imitating nature and express the artist's inner feelings. This artistic movement was formed from the combination of two other artistic movements, i.e. neo-impressionism and symbolism.

Synthetic artists used simple geometric forms and clear lines to create their works.

The colors in Synthesist paintings were used pure and flat and created a strong color contrast.

The main goal of synthesis was to express the artist's inner feelings. Artists tried to convey their feelings to the viewer by using color and form.

Many of the synthesist's works contain symbols that express deeper and more spiritual concepts.

Instead of creating a sense of depth and realism, synthetic artists emphasized the two-dimensionality of the painting surface.

Synthesism had a significant influence on later art movements such as Fauvism, Expressionism, and modern abstract art. The use of pure colors, the simplification of forms and the expression of emotions through art were concepts introduced to modern art by Synthesism and are still seen in the works of many contemporary artists.
